How do you honor a stepparent, since there’s no set role?

One option is to let them host a shower, rehearsal dinner, or an engagement party. If they are helping pay for the event, include their names on the invites—Mom and her spouse come first, then dad and his. During the ceremony, have your stepparent do a reading or act as an usher. Some brides ask both their dad and step dad to lead them down the aisle. You could also give stepparents a corsage, boutonniere, or standout tie to wear, and be sure to highlight them in the wedding program if you list family members. Last, reserve a dance with them at the reception, after the one with your parents. Most important? Don’t forget them when giving your toast.
